Portering is a nice way of saying picking up trash. But it goes beyond that. Many commercial properties have unique situations, with a unique array of pesky debris.

Debris makes your usually neat, healthy landscape look messy and neglected.

What is portering? It’s a lifesaver for your property’s curb appeal.

Let's take a look at how it works.

What Is Portering?

When our mowing crews arrive at your property, they might see a stray candy wrapper or discarded plastic bottle on the lawn. They scoop that kind of litter up routinely, before they mow. That’s part of their job. When our crews show up to blow off your property, they carry trash bags and will remove small debris like plastic bottles and wrappers from curb lines, parking lots and other areas that don't get mowed.

Portering takes care of the debris that goes behind the ordinary: Packing material that escapes from your warehouse and blows around your lawn. Discarded belongings left on the curb of your apartment complex. Rotting pallets that nobody else has hauled away.

Who Does Portering?

At Level Green Landscaping, we have dedicated crew members for portering. That’s what they do, every day.

Most of our customers have weekly portering service, although some ask for visits twice a week.

We know what you’re thinking: can't I just designate one of my own employees to do this task?

You could. But do you have any employees with extra time to spare? If they get distracted by other work, that debris will stay on your property, looking unsightly.

And consider that if you have an in-house employee tend to portering, you’re paying that person overtime and benefits.

Hire portering as part of your landscape maintenance service and it can save you money — and ensure the job is done regularly.

Who Needs Portering?

Who needs portering? Any commercial property owner who knows curb appeal is crucial to the success of their business.

We’ll share a few examples:

Several Level Green portering clients are warehouse sites with tenants that tend to generate waste. That waste escapes and blows around the property, looking unsightly.

Manufacturing sites tend to produce out-of-the-ordinary debris. A company that makes dog beds generates tons of fluffy stuffing. When tufts of stuffing escape the factory, they blow around, getting stuck in shrubs and landscaping. Portering to the rescue.

Loading docks tend to be magnets for piles of trash. Portering crews blow out the areas so they’re neat and clean.

Pallets have a habit of piling up. A portering services takes them away.

When residents of apartment complexes and condos do home renovations, they sometimes leave unsightly refuse out on the curb. Portering crews get rid of it before it can damage your reputation.

Dumpsters with open tops get piled high with cardboard boxes and foam pellets. A brisk wind blows those all over your property. Who gathers it up? A portering crew.
