Figuring out what job you’re meant to have is like buying a new pair of shoes: You have to try out a few before you find the right fit.
And that was the case for our team member Elder Martinez, enhancement supervisor at Level Green Landscaping.
Building on His Passions
Elder, who grew up in Guatemala, started his career in the construction industry. His first job was with a concrete construction company where he worked on all types of new concrete installation and repair. Elder still carries that love for hardscape projects in his current role.
He is now an enhancement supervisor at Level Green Landscaping. His job, in a nutshell, involves making properties beautiful throughout Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia.
That could include installing hardscapes and plantings such as trees, shrubs and flowers on our clients’ properties. He works with clients to ensure their properties’ landscapes attract visitors and tenants with aesthetic and sustainable value.
His brother, Josue, is actually the one who helped introduce him to the green industry. Josue was working for another large landscaping company in the area and told Elder it was a good industry to build a career.
The two had experience with agriculture work back home, and since Elder also enjoyed working outside, he decided to give landscaping a try and take his brother’s advice.
So, he joined the Level Green Landscaping team, and now his brother works with the company, too. They fit in perfectly with the company’s overall family atmosphere.
Elder says his favorite part of his job is installing and repairing hardscapes because it’s like a big puzzle he enjoys figuring out. Plus, he’s able to work with friends in an enjoyable atmosphere, he says.
The Man Behind Stunning Landscapes
It’s hard for anyone to miss Elder’s big smile or upbeat personality, whether he’s working on a jobsite or having fun with his team members. It’s something our clients especially appreciate.
And when he isn’t at work enhancing outdoor spaces, you’ll find him spending time with his 2-year-old son, Benjamin. Their adventures include learning how to ride a tricycle (Benjamin, that is), although Elder ends up pushing him on it most of the time.
But even a fun-loving guy like Elder has a few fears. Something not many people know about him is that he’s afraid of heights.
And actually, Elder didn’t know that either until he took a job with a roofing company. Needless to say, he didn’t stay with that job very long. Luckily, all of his work now is on the ground.
